Introduction to the role of Production Coordinator
I had the chance recently to talk to individuals interested in production management in person in Cardiff and virtually via Zoom to those attending in Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester.
I shared my background and why I love production management and the relevant skills and career path to take as a Production Coordinator in unscripted TV, plus answered many brilliant questions from the attendees.
It was all part of the 'Introduction to the role of Production Coordinator' taster days run by NFTS Leeds & NFTS Cymru Wales in association with the BBC.
Those successful in securing a place on the programme undertook a week-long training course in the role of the PC. This was spread across both scripted and unscripted and I returned back to BBC Wales on the 14th November to run a day for the Cardiff cohort on what the role of a PC on unscripted productions involves. They learnt about what the role entails and who they would work with, how to set up a location, studio, outside broadcast and overseas shoots, booking crew and kit, risk assessments and call sheets and inputting costs into a cost manager.
I’ll be working with the NFTS again in the new year running a 1-day budgeting course for unscripted TV.
