ScreenSkills Unscripted TV Skills Fund

It was my ambition when I first moved into training, to work with ScreenSkills as, in my opinion, they are the industry leaders in providing training and support to those looking to get into the industry as well as those who already work in the industry. To my amazement, they contacted me in late 2020, a few months after I launched my company, to see if I could run some of my production training, but as bitesize versions. I of course gladly obliged and thus started our working relations. This has seen me provided many short course sessions, some longer-form sessions and most recently I had the opportunity to run my first major training programme with them, the Production Co-ordination for Unscripted TV 12-month scheme, which we are completing in May.

They have now helped me achieve another career goal, which was to appear in Broadcast magazine. When I first started out in the industry (and of course now), I loved reading through each issue of Broadcast, finding out about the new developments and insider secrets to create brilliant shows. I always hoped as I progressed in my career, to one day be mentioned in its pages. Well, with the help of ScreenSkills, my ambition has been realised in April’s issue. This month's issue highlights the success of the ScreenSkills Unscripted TV Skills Fund. This fund is paid into from each unscripted commission, by both the Production Company and the Broadcaster and allows ScreenSkills to subsidise or fund short-courses as well as longer training programmes. In the article, I was able to comment on the production teams shortage and relay the success of the Production Co-ordination for Unscripted TV 12-month scheme.
